The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday sought a detailed report from authorities on measures taken to ensure safe Basant celebrations while hearing petitions challenging permission for the kite-flying festival.
Justice Awais Khalid heard petitions filed by the Judicial Activism Panel and others. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore, Director General Public Relations (DGPR) and other officials appeared before the court.
The DGPR informed the court that a public awareness campaign was being conducted through print and electronic media to educate citizens about safety precautions related to Basant.
He said the campaign had been running for the past three days. The court directed the DGPR to coordinate closely with the DC Lahore in this regard.
Responding to court queries, the DC Lahore said meetings had been held with the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), which had assured full cooperation and necessary arrangements to maintain safety during the festival.
A senior police officer of SSP rank told the court that a central control room had been established at the DC Office.
