Deputy speaker criticises govt over civic neglect in Bahawalpur

Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channar on Tuesday strongly criticised the provincial government over worsening civic conditions in Bahawalpur, particularly damaged roads and overflowing sewerage, saying residents were facing severe hardships.

While presiding over the House, Channar said the relevant authorities appeared disconnected from ground realities.

He stated that several roads in Bahawalpur were broken and submerged in sewage water, creating serious difficulties for the public.

The deputy speaker remarked that whenever the issue was raised in the Assembly, the concerned minister responded by saying that tenders had been issued, but no visible development work followed.

"We return to our constituencies with the so-called good news that tenders have been issued, and then months pass in false hope," he said.

Channar disclosed that Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq had, on at least three occasions, informed the House that tenders had been finalised and work would start soon.

However, he added, no practical progress could be seen on the ground, leading local youth to question their representatives.
