SWABI:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, has strongly criticised the recent court verdict against Iman Mazari and her hus-band, saying it reflects the collapse of the country's justice system.

Talking to members of the Swabi Press Club at his residence in Mohra Marghaz, Qaiser said such decisions would further erode public trust in the judiciary.

He asserted that democracy was practically nonexistent in the country and stressed that the peo-ple must have the right to freely elect their leadership.

He urged lawyers to play their role in safe-guarding law and justice, reiterating PTI's demand for fresh, free and fair elections.

Commenting on foreign policy matters, Qaiser said the decision to join the Gaza Peace Board was taken without any debate in parliament or approval from the federal cabinet.

He added that details of the board had yet to be shared and criticised the foreign minister for failing to take par-liament into confidence.

He maintained that Pakistan should pursue an independent foreign poli-cy based solely on national interests, avoid alignment with any bloc, and foster good relations with neighbouring countries.
