LAHORE:

The body of a newborn baby was found dumped in a trash bin in the Chung area on Friday. A spokesperson for Edhi Foundation said a passerby spotted the infant's body in a garbage container and informed the police.

Upon receiving the alert, police reached the scene, took the body into custody and shifted it to a morgue for post-mortem examination and legal formalities. Police officials said preliminary investigations suggest that an unidentified person discarded the newborn's body before fleeing the scene.

No immediate details regarding the child's identity or cause of death were available. Authorities said efforts are under way to identify the suspect with the help of CCTV footage from nearby areas. Police added that further action would be taken once forensic and post-mortem reports are received. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident in the Saggian area when he was hit by a dumper while attempting to cross the road.

According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the incident occurred within the limits of Saggian police check-post, where the victim came under the wheels of a dumper and died on the spot due to severe injuries.
