Elle Fanning has received her first Academy Award nomination, marking a significant milestone in her acting career.

The actress was named among the nominees for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the Norwegian drama Sentimental Value when the 98th Academy Awards nominations were announced on Thursday, January 22.

In the caption, she wrote, “IS THIS REAL!?!?!?! IS THIS A DREAM!?!?!?! I can’t catch my breath. I am in absolute shock. What an honor to have my first Academy Award nomination be for a film that acknowledges the power of moviemaking and family! My Mom, Grandma, Sister, and Aunt were here with me this morning to scream and hug and cry.”

Her nomination comes during a strong awards season showing for Sentimental Value. The film, directed by Trier and co-written with Eskil Vogt, secured nine nominations in total, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best International Feature for Norway. Fanning was joined in the acting categories by co-stars Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.

In the film, Fanning plays Rachel Kemp, an American actress drawn into the personal and professional orbit of an estranged director, portrayed by Skarsgård. Critics have highlighted her performance for its emotional openness and contrast with the film’s heavier family themes.

At 27, Fanning has worked in film since early childhood, earning acclaim for projects such as The Great and The Neon Demon. This nomination signals a new phase in her career, which continues to expand with recent roles including A Complete Unknown and an upcoming appearance as a young Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
