LAHORE:

The Punjab Police has rejected allegations of fake police encounters involving the Crime Control Department (CCD), declaring them false, baseless, and driven by social media rumours.

The police submitted a detailed written report to the Lahore High Court (LHC) in compliance with directions.

According to the report, the establishment of the CCD has led to a significant decline in major crimes across Punjab. Within seven months of CCD operations, property-related crimes reportedly dropped by more than 64%, while incidents of robbery and murder declined by around 60%. The police claimed that the number of robberies had declined by 69% last year as compared to 2024.

Cases of street crimes dropped from around 41,000 to 18,608, marking a 62% decline.

The report stated that vehicle snatching had decreased by 64%, car theft 60% and motorcycle snatching 53% to 4,628. Cases of robbery-cum-murder declined from 170 to 96.
