Low marriage grant approvals protested

RAWALPINDI:

Pakistan Railways has approved the applications of 25 railway retirees and small-scale employees in Rawalpindi division for marriage grant for their daughters, while rejecting more than 500 applications.

Pakistan Railways pays marriage grant of Rs50,000 to small scale employees for their daughters' marriage. A large number of employees file applications for the minimal grant amount. The applications are decided upon after a year, or sometimes, even after two years. During the most recent round of applications, many applicants had passed away before hearing back on the applications.
