18.5kg tumour removed from woman's abdomen

In a remarkable and complex surgical procedure, a senior surgeon from Nishtar Hospital successfully removed a giant 18.5-kilogramme tumour from the abdomen of a 55-year-old woman at a private clinic in Multan.
Dr Khadim Hussain, a senior surgeon at Nishtar Hospital, performed the surgery on a resident of Muzaffargarh, who was brought to the clinic with complaints of severe abdominal pain, swelling and breathing difficulties.
Medical examinations and diagnostic tests revealed that the patient was suffering from a giant abdominal tumour, identified as a large ovarian tumour or ovarian cyst, which had grown abnormally over time.
Dr Khadim Hussain said such tumours often develop due to factors including hormonal imbalance, failure to treat ovarian cysts or tumours in time, age-related changes in reproductive organs, or prolonged neglect of early symptoms.
He explained that these tumours usually remain "silent" in the initial stages, with pain and noticeable symptoms appearing late, allowing the condition to reach a dangerous level.
He said the surgery was extremely delicate due to the size and sensitivity of the tumour, but it was completed successfully.
The patient's condition is now stable and out of danger, and she is recovering rapidly.
