The Punjab government has launched a Disabled Persons Management Information System (DPMIS) portal to facilitate special persons across the province for online registration, assessment, and issuance of disability certificates.
According to a report regarding the new system and facilities for special persons submitted to the Lahore High Court, 556,528 special persons have so far been registered on the system, including 385,000 physically disabled, 171,000 visually impaired and over 75,000 hearing-impaired citizens. Over 47,000 people with mental disabilities and 63 transgender persons are also included in the category.
The government informed the court that disability assessment boards had been formed in every district for issuing the certificates.
A three per cent job quota for special persons is applicable in both public and private sectors.
The quota system had been affected by a ban on government recruitment, but the provincial cabinet has now allowed hiring under it.
