LHC upholds death sentence

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) upheld the death sentence handed down to a convict, Muhammad Yaseen, for killing four people, including his wife and daughter, over a family dispute, dismissing his appeal against the verdict of a trial court.

A bench comprising Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa heard the appeal.

During the proceedings, Additional Prosecutor General Munir Ahmed Siyal opposed the plea for acquittal.

He informed the court that Yaseen had opened fire over a family dispute, killing his wife Mumtaz Bibi, daughter Sonia, Waqas and Ilyas, and injuring another person, Asif.

The FIR of the incident was registered on November 18, 2021, at Mustafaabad police station in Kasur district, he added.

He said that the presence of eyewitnesses at the crime scene was established, and the injured man was also an independent eyewitness.

It was argued that there were no contradictions in the statements of the witnesses and the police investigation, medical evidence and ocular testimony had proved the convict's involvement in the crime.

The sessions court, after hearing arguments from both sides, had announced the death penalty on four counts, against which the appeal had been filed.
