ISLAMABAD:

The issue of lawyers failing to appear before the Supreme Court was raised on Monday, with Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi noting that lawyers often do not show up after requesting early hearings of their cases.

During the hearing, CJP Afridi summoned Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Haroon ur Rashid, observing that while requests for expedited hearings are submitted, lawyers frequently fail to attend. He added that video link facilities are available, allowing lawyers who cannot travel to Islamabad to appear remotely.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan noted that a large number of applications seeking adjournments are being filed by lawyers.
