Unidentified assailants kill young lawyer

HARIPUR:

A young lawyer was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle assailants on Choor Road Bypass on Saturday, prompting the local legal fraternity to announce a day of mourning and a courtroom boycott.

The incident occurred within the limits of Khalabat on Choor Road Bypass, where unknown gunmen opened fire on 35-year-old Advocate Inayatullah, nephew of the late Judge Ahmed Sultan Khan. Rescue 1122 personnel reached the scene and transferred the body to the Trauma Centre in Haripur. A large number of local residents later gathered at the hospital.

In a statement, District Bar Association President Asad Saeed Khan and the cabinet strongly condemned what they termed the "brutal and cold-blooded" killing of a respected member of the Bar.

The Association announced that January 19 would be observed as a day of mourning, during which lawyers would not appear before courts and a complete strike would be observed.

The Bar demanded that the police and relevant authorities immediately arrest the perpetrators, bring them before the law, and expose them publicly.
