Court doubts police claim of arresting 'thieving maids'
A Judicial Magistrate (East) on Friday sent five women allegedly belonging to house-theft gang to jail on judicial remand in a case involving thefts from residential homes.
The accused women-identified as Sawera, Naila, Urooj, Alishba and Sana-were produced before the Judicial Magistrate (East) in connection with a gang allegedly involved in thefts from residential houses.
The investigating officer informed the court that the arrested women, working as domestic maids, were involved in thefts worth more than Rs3 million. However, defence counsel Liaquat Ali Khan Gabol argued that no affected homeowner had lodged a complaint against the women.
The court observed that the complainant in the case was not the affected party, as no house owner had registered an FIR. The magistrate further remarked that it was unclear why the house in-charge had filed the case instead of the property owners.
While seeking the challan from the investigating officer, the court ordered that the accused women be sent to jail on judicial remand.
