Man arrested for killing, burning wife
Police claimed to have cracked the case of murder and burning of woman, in Mailsi, with investigators confirming that the woman's husband was responsible for the crime.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, DSP Mailsi Chaudhry Saeed Ahmed Sial said the incident occurred during the night between January 9 and 10 in Mauza Thall Bohar, within the limits of Miranpur police station.
The victim, identified as Siani Mai, was allegedly murdered while she was asleep and her body was later set on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The DSP said the case initially appeared to be a blind murder, as the culprits were unknown and the crime scene had been deliberately damaged.
However, police launched an investigation using modern techniques and detained the victim's husband, Muhammad Parvez, on suspicion. During interrogation, the accused confessed to killing his wife over suspicion of infidelity.
He further revealed that after committing the murder, he poured petrol on the body and set it ablaze to mislead investigators and erase evidence. To divert suspicion from himself, he also registered a case against unknown persons, pretending to be unaware of the crime.
Chaudhry Saeed Ahmed Sial praised SHO Miranpur Noor Muzammil Warak and his investigation team for tracing the case within a short period, despite the challenges posed by the destruction of evidence.
He assured that police were committed to ensuring justice for the victim and her family. "The accused will be prosecuted under the law and punished through the courts," the DSP said, adding that such crimes would not be tolerated.
Police officials said legal formalities were being completed and a challan would be submitted to the court at the earliest.
