Zak Starkey, son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, shared insights on his career with The Who, Oasis, and his upcoming one-man show during an exclusive interview with The Post.

The 60-year-old drummer will debut “Zak Starkey… Who?: An Evening of Drums and Conversation” at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City on February 20, 2026. The show will feature stories, home videos, photos, and performances from his decades-long career with iconic bands.

Starkey addressed his relationship with The Who following multiple firings by singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend in 2025. “We’re still friends. We still talk all the time,” he said, adding that “tempers flare” within the band but emphasized he stands up for himself when treated unfairly. He first joined The Who as a touring drummer in 1996, following in the footsteps of his godfather, original drummer Keith Moon. Starkey recounted performing on major stages, including the Super Bowl halftime show in 2010 and the London Olympics closing ceremony in 2012.

Beyond The Who, Starkey played with Oasis from 2004 until the band’s 2009 split, praising the experience for its camaraderie and professionalism. He reflected on the contrasts between the two bands, noting Oasis rehearsed, toured, and performed without conflict, unlike his experiences with The Who.

Starkey described his one-man show as “a celebration of all the music I’ve been involved in” and emphasized his lifelong passion for drumming. Fans attending the Gramercy Theatre event will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session, where Starkey will share more behind-the-scenes stories from his career in rock music.
