Tragedy strikes Freddie Mercury’s family as heartbreaking news is confirmed

Freddie Mercury’s previously undisclosed daughter has died at the age of 48, her family has confirmed, just over a year after her existence was revealed in a controversial biography about the Queen frontman.

The woman, identified publicly only as “B,” passed away peacefully following a prolonged battle with chordoma, a rare form of spinal cancer, according to a family statement. She is survived by two young sons, aged nine and seven.

Her death comes months after the publication of Love, Freddie, a book by music journalist Lesley-Ann Jones, which claimed Mercury secretly fathered a child during a brief relationship in 1976.

The revelation challenged long-held narratives about the singer’s private life and sparked widespread debate among fans and critics.

In a statement shared with British media, B’s widower, Thomas, said her ashes were scattered over the Alps. He described her as being “now with her beloved and loving father,” adding that her illness had been kept largely private.

Jones, who worked closely with B over several years, said she was devastated by the loss. She described the woman as deeply committed to correcting what she believed were decades of misinformation about Mercury’s life, even while seriously ill.

According to Jones, B viewed the book as a final mission rather than a personal exposé.

The author has previously said Mercury knew about his daughter and maintained a close relationship with her until his death in 1991. She claims he affectionately referred to her by nicknames including “Bibi” and “trésor,” and that select individuals, among them Mary Austin, Mercury’s parents, sister, and Queen bandmates, were aware of her existence.

Jones has also alleged that Mercury left his daughter 17 volumes of personal journals, which later formed the basis of the book. Songs such as Bijou and Don’t Try So Hard have been cited as possibly inspired by their bond, though these claims have not been independently verified.

Despite the global attention following the book’s release, B’s real name, exact location, and personal details were never publicly disclosed. It is known that she lived in Europe, worked in healthcare, and was raised by another family while always being aware of her biological father’s identity.

Mercury died in 1991 at the age of 45 from complications related to AIDS, announcing his diagnosis only one day before his death. His daughter’s passing at 48—just three years older than he was when he died, adds a tragic coda to one of rock music’s most enduring and enigmatic legacies.
