Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey confirm return together in major West End musical
Wicked co-stars hint they will lead London revival of Sunday in the Park with George, exciting theatre fans worldwide

Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey appear set to reunite on stage, sending fans and theatre audiences into a frenzy after what many view as confirmation of long-rumoured plans to lead a new production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.
Speculation intensified this week after Bailey, 37, shared an Instagram photo of himself and Grande, 32, seated inside an art gallery in front of A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte—the iconic Georges Seurat painting that inspired Sondheim’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical. Bailey captioned the image with the lyric, “All it has to be is good,” a line from the show’s title song, prompting fans to interpret the post as a deliberate reveal.
The pair most recently starred together in the Wicked film adaptations, portraying Glinda and Fiyero, and have remained publicly close since meeting on set in 2023. Their strong on-screen chemistry and continued friendship have fueled ongoing fan hopes for another collaboration.
According to Deadline, the anticipated revival of Sunday in the Park with George is expected to arrive in London in summer 2027, with the Barbican Theatre reported as the intended venue. The production is said to be directed by Marianne Elliott, a Tony and Olivier Award winner. Sources cited by the outlet claim that Grande and Bailey have already taken part in early read-throughs and “excelled in the parts,” with industry speculation suggesting Bailey would portray George, while Grande would take on the role of Dot.
Originally premiering on Broadway in 1984, Sunday in the Park with George was created by Sondheim and director James Lapine. The musical explores the creative struggle of a fictionalized version of painter Georges Seurat as he works on his masterpiece, before shifting a century forward to follow his artistic descendant facing similar doubts and pressures. While the show briefly ran in the UK between 2005 and 2006, it has not opened in London in nearly two decades.
Neither Grande nor Bailey has issued an official statement confirming casting or performance dates. However, their social media activity, combined with multiple industry reports, has convinced fans that the long-discussed project is now firmly in motion.
