Timothée Chalamet has been compared to Leonardo DiCaprio following discussion around his comments during the promotional press run for his upcoming film, Marty Supreme.

The comparison was made by comedian Chelsea Handler during a recent appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, where she addressed the actor’s approach to media interviews.

Speaking with host Amanda Hirsch, Handler was asked whether Chalamet appeared to be taking the press tour too seriously. “It seemed so,” she replied.

Handler said the actor “seemed pretty serious about winning and getting acknowledged for his great acting,” adding, “He’s a great actor, but it’s hard to hear someone talk about how great they are at acting.”

During the conversation, Handler and Hirsch contrasted Chalamet’s remarks with the public persona of Leonardo DiCaprio, whom they referred to as a “golden star.”

Handler stated that the One Battle After Another actor “wouldn’t talk like that,” suggesting a difference in how established actors handle public recognition.

The comments followed interviews in which Chalamet made several statements about his recent work while promoting Marty Supreme. In one appearance, he said, “I’ve been handing in really, really, committed, top-of-the-line performances,” over the past “seven, eight years.”

He also said, “It’s important to say it out loud because of the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things,” adding, “This is really some top-level s—.”

The remarks prompted mixed reactions from fans, with some describing them as boastful. Addressing the response in an interview with IndieWire, Chalamet said he was adopting the mindset of his character.

“It’s a movie about the pursuit of a dream. I’m leaving it on the field,” he said, explaining that his press appearances were made “in the spirit of Marty Mauser.”

He later clarified his comments during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, stating that he was still “in the energy and the tone of the character” after filming and concluding that he was “living in absolute humility.”
