KARACHI:

Karachi experienced its coldest day of the ongoing winter season on Monday as the mercury dropped to 8.1 degrees Celsius, while the temperature at Jinnah Terminal Airport fell further to six degrees Celsius.

The cold wave has intensified due to icy winds blowing in from Balochistan, keeping temperatures low across the city.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, cold and dry weather is expected to persist in Karachi over the next few days, with the current cold spell likely to continue until Wednesday.

In rural Sindh, the cold was even more severe, with Mithi recording a temperature of zero degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said that during this period, south-westerly sea breezes are expected to remain inactive, while north-easterly winds from Quetta may dominate most of the time, reaching speeds of up to 22 kilometres per hour.

The maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to range between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, while fog may develop in the morning hours across the plains of Sindh.
