Lionsgate confirms The Housemaid’s Secret, with Sydney Sweeney and director Paul Feig returning for the sequel

Lionsgate has officially greenlit a sequel to its psychological thriller The Housemaid, following the film’s strong box office performance.
Titled The Housemaid’s Secret, the sequel will see Sydney Sweeney reprise her lead role, with Paul Feig returning to direct.
Based on the second novel in Freida McFadden’s best-selling Housemaid book trilogy, the project has been in development for several months. Lionsgate is planning to begin production later this year. Michele Morrone is also set to return, while Amanda Seyfried is not expected to play a major role in the follow-up.
Released in late 2025, The Housemaid has grossed $133 million worldwide in its first two and a half weeks, including $75.7 million in North America. The film was produced on a reported $35 million budget, making it one of Lionsgate’s most profitable releases of the year.
In the first installment, Sweeney stars as Millie, a woman attempting to escape her troubled past after taking a live-in housemaid job for a wealthy family with dark secrets. Morrone plays Enzo, the family’s groundskeeper, who becomes a key ally to Millie. The film also starred Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar and Elizabeth Perkins.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said the decision to move forward with a sequel was driven by audience response and strong engagement across social media platforms.
Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine will return to adapt the sequel, with Todd Lieberman producing alongside Feig and Laura Fischer. Sweeney and McFadden will serve as executive producers.
McFadden’s Housemaid book series has sold over 12 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 40 languages, further cementing the franchise’s global appeal.
