WASA plans first recharge well
Underground storage tank to be built on Susan Road green belt

In view of depleting water resources and the steadily declining groundwater level, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Faisalabad has decided to construct a recharge well and an underground storage tank, an initiative being undertaken for the first time in the city’s history, to ensure swift drainage of rainwater in the Madina Town area.
Under the project, a recharge well will be constructed in the green belt along Susan Road, while an underground storage tank will be built in the green belt adjacent to Faizan Madina Chowk.
The initiative aims to improve rainwater management during the upcoming monsoon season while also contributing to groundwater recharge.
Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza, along with Director General Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Dilawar Khan Chadhar, Deputy Managing Director Usman Latif, and other officials, visited Susan Road in Madina Town to inspect the proposed site for the recharge well.
The team also reviewed the location earmarked for the underground storage tank and issued necessary instructions to ensure timely execution of the project.
Speaking on the occasion, MD WASA Saqib Raza said that under the Clean Punjab Programme launched by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provision of quality sewerage and water supply services to citizens is a top priority.
He said comprehensive planning had been completed to ensure rapid drainage of rainwater during the forthcoming monsoon, and implementation of the plan had already begun. He explained that rainwater collected through the recharge well on Susan Road would not only expedite drainage but also help replenish the groundwater table.
Similarly, rainwater stored in the underground tank near Faizan Madina Chowk would later be discharged into the sewerage system, significantly reducing water accumulation during heavy rainfall.
MD WASA further stated that the PHA administration was fully on board with the project and would undertake plantation of aesthetically pleasing plants along both green belts. With these measures, he added, Madina Town’s Susan Road would be developed as a model road for the city, combining effective drainage, environmental sustainability, and enhanced urban beautification.
