KARACHI:

It is very common to hear that so and so artist died in poverty and his work is worth millions of rupees. The fact that artists are not entrepreneurs allows vultures in the market to rob them of their due right.

Many artists are deprived of their earnings, pocketed by promoters and so called well-wishers.

In this regard, Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi's School of Visual & Performing Arts hosted a session titled The Bridging of Academia and Industry at Haseena Moin Hall, bringing together leading voices from the art world and academia.

Arts Council President Muhammad Ahmed Shah attended as special guest, while renowned artist and curator RM Naeem, artist Sadaf Naeem, and educationist, author, curator and artist Saulat Ajmal shared their perspectives. The session was moderated by celebrated artist Muhammad Zeeshan.

Speaking on the occasion, Naeem highlighted the challenges faced by artists in society, noting that in many places being an artist is still viewed negatively. He urged a shift in mindset, stressing that today's children are tomorrow's stars and must be given opportunities. He advised young artists to focus on the integrity of their work rather than treating it as a product, adding that broadening one's thinking is essential for growth.
