76k drug suspects held in year

LAHORE:

Punjab Police arrested 76,000 suspected drug dealers in 115,00 raids and registered 75,000 cases across the province during 2025.

A spokesperson said the police had seized 43,269 kilogrammes of charas, 2,279kg of ice drug, 3,834kg of heroin, 3,089kg of opium and more than 923,000 litres of liquor during the year so far.

In Lahore, more than 26,000 suspected drug dealers were arrested and over 25,000 cases registered.

The spokesperson said the police had also fulfilled its social responsibility by admitting 2,159 drug addicts to rehabilitation centres. Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar ordered that all those involved in online drug supply should be brought to justice.

The IGP also ordered intensification of intelligence-based operations in and around educational institutions and hostels.
