RAWALPINDI:

Families of the workers martyred alongside former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007, have grown disillusioned with the PPP leadership due to alleged neglect, unfulfilled promises of financial assistance, plots and jobs, and have consequently left the party.

A large number of these families have joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), where they are now also facing legal cases. Following the tragedy, the PPP had announced comprehensive financial assistance for families of all martyred workers and seriously injured activists, including the allotment of one plot per family and jobs for widows or children according to their education.

Families were asked to submit applications along with proof of martyrdom or injury and verification letters from senior party leaders and organisational offices.
