Preparations have begun at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, the site of martyrdom of former prime minister and ex-Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto, ahead of her 18th death anniversary.

The site will be cleaned and washed with rose water.

Various PPP groups will hold vigils daily at the martyrdom site from the afternoon until sunset. The PPP, PSF, PYO, PPP Women's Wing, Ulema and Mashaikh Wing and Lawyers' Wing will pay daily visits.

Cleaning and washing of the site has formally commenced, while PPP City, District and Cantt organisations are actively participating in the anniversary preparations.

A convoy of PPP workers will also travel to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Larkana, to attend the central anniversary ceremony, where President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto will address the gathering.

PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari, Incharge Central Secretariat Sibtul Hassan Shah, Nargis Faiz Malik, Rashid Chauhan and Raja Shakeel said that a major ceremony will be held at the martyrdom site on December 27, starting with Quran recitation followed by speeches from party leaders. They said preparations would be completed by December 25 and convoys from the Rawalpindi Division would reach the site.

They said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto remains a symbol of peace, brotherhood, unity and tolerance even today.
