Moroccan runner wins Sukkur marathon
Lok Sahitha International Marathon
The second edition of the Lok Sahitha International Marathon, themed as 'the hope run' started in Sukkur on Sunday morning, with over 3,000 people including 28 foreign athletes from 15 countries participating in the race. The men covered 42 kilometers marathon and women less than one fourth of the distance, 10 kms.
The run started from IBA Public School. Before reaching the finish point, the runners passed through the city's roads and streets, following the route set for the race. Mayor of Sukkur Arsalan Shaikh, flanked by DIG Syed Peer Muhammad Shah and provincial secretary Abbass Baloch inaugurated the event and participated in it as well.
The first to reach the finish point among the women runners were Mueni Mutuku from Kenya, Yuko Iriguchi from Japan and Lahore's Mahnoor Afzal. They completed the track in 40.15 minutes, 40.38 minutes and 42.50 minutes, respectively. Likewise, Elhissouf Abdelmajid of Morocco, Miheretu Neber Ayalew of Ethiopia and Jackson Maina Muru of Kenya emerged as the first, second and third finishers, reaching the concluding point 142.33 minutes, 148.38 minutes and 150.58 minutes, respectively.
