In a major step to strengthen climate early warning and forecasting capabilities, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has signed an agreement under a World Bank-funded project to install advanced, high-tech automatic weather stations across the country.

According to the PMD, the department has entered into a formal agreement for the installation of advanced automatic weather stations (AWS) under a World Bank-funded programme.

Director General PMD Sahibzada Khan said the agreement represents a milestone, adding that high-tech sensor-equipped AWS systems were being installed in Pakistan for the first time.
