RAWALPINDI:

A suspect allegedly involved in an attempt to sexually assault a 14-year-old boy was arrested in injured condition following an alleged police encounter in the Nasirabad police station area.

According to officials, a police team on duty on Sada Road attempted to stop suspicious individuals, upon which two suspects opened fire on the police. During the exchange, one suspect was injured and arrested, identified as Sabir Khan, and a weapon was recovered, while his accomplice managed to escape.

Police said the arrested suspect is a record-holder in narcotics cases and was also nominated in a case registered a few days earlier for attempting sexual assault in the same area. During the firing, Constable Waseem was hit by a bullet but remained safe due to his bulletproof jacket. Senior police officers reached the scene along with additional force, and a search operation has been launched to arrest the absconding suspect.

The injured suspect has been shifted to hospital.

Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani praised members of the police team for their bravery, stating that those who attack citizens and the police will not escape the law.
