Russell Brand criticises Katy Perry’s relationship with Justin Trudeau
Russell Brand addressed Katy Perry’s relationship with Justin Trudeau during remarks at Turning Point USA event

Russell Brand has commented publicly on his ex-wife Katy Perry’s relationship with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
The remarks were made on December 18 during Brand’s appearance at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, Arizona, where he addressed the audience and referenced Perry and Trudeau directly.
Brand, who was married to Perry from 2010 until their divorce in 2012, told the crowd: “Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom’s in the room to hear me say this, but look. I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Come on, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy! That globalist stooge.”
Perry previously dated actor Orlando Bloom after the pair met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016. They became engaged in 2019 before ending their relationship in June 2025. The former couple share a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, born in August 2020.
Perry and Trudeau were first linked in July 2025 after being seen together in Montreal. A source told PEOPLE at the time that the pair had an “instant connection” and were interested in each other, though their schedules and life changes meant it would take time to see how the relationship developed.
The source added that music was one of several shared interests and said, “Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements.” The couple made their first public appearance together in October 2025 at a cabaret show at Crazy Horse Paris celebrating Perry’s birthday.
Earlier this year, Brand was charged with five counts relating to assault and rape allegations made by four women. The allegations date from incidents between 1999 and 2005. Brand has denied the accusations, stating that he “absolutely refutes” the claims.
