Alleged drug peddler shot dead

Accomplices flee after exchange of fire with team from Crime Control Department

CHAK JHUMRA:

An alleged drug dealer was killed in a police encounter near the Jhumra Bypass, adjacent to the CCD Headquarters, while his accomplices managed to flee, police said on Thursday.

According to police, the incident occurred when a Crime Control Department (CCD) team set up a checkpoint on the Lakhrewala–Jhumra Bypass as part of an ongoing crackdown against narcotics peddlers. The operation was carried out on the directives of District Officer CCD Malik Tariq and was led by Inspector Syed Aram Raza Shah, in charge of the CCD Headquarters.

Police officials said that during the checkpoint, officers signalled two motorcyclists to stop for checking.

Instead of complying, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party. Police retaliated, resulting in injuries to one of the suspects.

The injured suspect was identified as Qaiser Ali alias Ali Sohna, son of Zafar Iqbal, a resident of Gulzar Colony, Street 9.
