Experts stress clean mobility to curb smog

As Pakistan grapples with worsening air pollution, industry leaders and climate experts have called for accelerated adoption of clean mobility solutions, warning that transport emissions remain one of the most immediate and controllable drivers of urban smog.

The issue took centre stage at a Climate Action Dialogue hosted in Lahore.

Research by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) identifies the transport sector as accounting for more than 43% of national emissions and up to 80% in densely populated urban centres.

Speakers at the dialogue argued that cleaner transportation offers one of the fastest pathways to reducing emissions while delivering economic and public health benefits.

The session brought together energy researcher Dr Naveed Arshad, climate policy expert Ali Tauqeer Shaikh and climate finance specialist Mehak Masood to examine how clean mobility solutions can be deployed.
