Govt expands CTD jurisdiction in S Punjab

DG Khan unit to cover Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rajanpur

LAHORE:

The Punjab government has expanded the jurisdiction of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) following the approval of the provincial cabinet, a move aimed at strengthening counterterrorism operations and improving security coordination in sensitive regions of the province.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the jurisdiction of CTD Dera Ghazi Khan has been extended to include Tehsil Koh-e-Suleman in Dera Ghazi Khan district as well as tehsil of Rajanpur.

The decision has been formally notified through an order issued by the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab.

With this expansion, CTD Dera Ghazi Khan's jurisdiction now covers the entire Dera Ghazi Khan Police Region, comprising the districts of Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah and Rajanpur.

Officials said the step would enable the department to carry out more effective intelligence-based operations across the region.

The spokesperson said the decision was taken to enhance surveillance and allow timely action against extremist and militant threats, particularly in remote and border areas that require focused security attention due to their strategic importance and inter-provincial linkages.

The notification amends an earlier order issued on September 27, 2019, and was made on the recommendations of the Home Department with the approval of the provincial cabinet.
