Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming science fiction film, Disclosure Day, revealing the title and release date as June 12, 2026.
The movie stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Spielberg collaborated with screenwriter David Koepp, who previously worked with him on films including Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds.
The trailer shows Blunt portraying a meteorologist who encounters an extraterrestrial force while delivering a weather report, with O’Connor’s character determined to reveal the truth of alien life to the world.
Scenes include crop circles, car chases, and mysterious phenomena, with Universal describing the logline as: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.”
Fans have reacted positively online, noting the similarities to Spielberg’s 1977 classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. One wrote, “The guy who made Close Encounters of the Third Kind is making another UFO film nearly 50 years later, and that’s really all anyone should be talking about.” Others highlighted the film’s visual style and casting as reasons for anticipation.
Disclosure Day is Spielberg’s first feature since 2023’s The Fabelmans and his 37th directing credit since 1964, which includes iconic sci-fi films such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Minority Report, and Ready Player One.
The film is produced by Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger through Amblin Entertainment and is set to premiere in cinemas worldwide on June 12, 2026.
