Churches, public places under watch for holidays

Security measures include patrolling, CCTV surveillance and deployment of personnel

In view of Christmas, Quaid-e-Azam Day and New Year 2026 celebrations, the Punjab Home Department has decided to keep security on high alert across the province under foolproof arrangements.

Security guidelines have been issued to the Inspector General of Police Punjab, CCPOs of Lahore and Rawalpindi, regional, city and district police officers, and deputy commissioners.

The directives include installation of walk-through gates at churches, 24-hour monitoring and patrolling, and strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against aerial firing, arms display and one-wheeling.

According to the guidelines, comprehensive security measures are to be ensured at churches, foreign diplomatic missions, public places and event venues.

Police, intelligence agencies and district administrations have been directed to deploy additional personnel, install walk-through gates and metal detectors, ensure CCTV surveillance, and conduct strict checking of suspicious individuals and vehicles.

The directives also call for 24-hour patrolling at major churches and sensitive locations, rooftop duty on high-rise buildings, availability of bomb disposal squads, and intelligence-based operations.

Additional police deployment has been ordered in markets, parks, shopping malls and recreational spots.

Commissioners and deputy commissioners have been instructed to convene meetings of intelligence and coordination committees, promote interfaith harmony, complete contingency plans in a timely manner, and keep the Home Department informed.
