Two persons, including a constable, were martyred on Monday as the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police tried to foil an armed robbery at two banks in Panjgur district of Balochistan.

The incident occurred at Chitkan Bazaar near Bismillah Chowk, where armed robbers targeted Habib Bank and Meezan Bank using heavy weapons.

Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) responded swiftly and engaged the assailants, preventing further damage in the crowded market area.

This triggered a fierce exchange of fire, leaving at least two people dead, including a CTD constable, Dura Khan, while two other policemen sustained injuries.

A police vehicle was partially damaged in the firing. The exact amount of cash taken away by the attackers could not be immediately confirmed. Following the clash, the LEAs sealed off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Reacting to the incident, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti lauded the timely and courageous response of the CTD and police, stating that their bravery and professional conduct ensured the protection of public lives and property.

He paid tribute to the martyred CTD constable Dura Khan, saluting his courage, sense of duty, and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The chief minister said that the sacrifices of brave sons like Dura Khan would never be forgotten and that the nation remains indebted to its martyrs.

He also expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the civilian who lost his life in the incident and prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased. Reaffirming the government’s resolve, CM Bugti stated that there is no place for terrorists and criminal elements in Balochistan, adding that the state will continue operations against anti-national forces with full strength.
