Murree declares snowfall season

19 facilitation centres activated, vehicle monitoring begins on all entry routes

RAWALPINDI:

The snowfall security season in Murree has been declared and activated. A total of 19 facilitation centres have been made operational on GT Road, motorway routes, and roads leading from Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Murree.

These centres will remain open 24 hours throughout the season, with officers from all relevant departments deployed in shifts.

During the snowfall season, the strength of traffic police and civil defence volunteers has been increased. Monitoring of vehicles entering Murree from all toll plazas has also begun. The Meteorological Department will issue snowfall alerts every ten hours.

With winter vacations starting this week, tourist families from across the country are expected to arrive in Murree, with a major influx anticipated from Friday, December 19.

To ensure quick clearance of snow, 26 snow-removal vehicles have been deployed, along with large quantities of salt and chemicals.

These vehicles will operate round the clock as soon as snowfall begins, with three personnel assigned to each vehicle.

Parking along roadsides during snowfall has been banned, and violators' vehicles will be impounded by police.

Strict security arrangements will be in place at Murree's main market, Mall Road, Pindi Point, Kashmir Point and GPO Chowk, with women police personnel also deployed.

A baton-carrying force comprising local youth has been formed to prevent fights and scuffles.
