Donald Trump targets late Rob Reiner in Truth Social post after director’s death
Donald Trump comments on Rob Reiner’s death as LAPD investigates the killing of Reiner and his wife Michele Singer

President Donald Trump has publicly commented on the death of filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner, making controversial claims about the circumstances surrounding the director’s passing as authorities continue a homicide investigation in Los Angeles.
Reiner, a legendary Hollywood director known for films such as When Harry Met Sally and A Few Good Men, was found dead on Sunday at his Brentwood home alongside his wife, Michele Singer. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the couple’s deaths are being investigated as a homicide and that both victims were reportedly stabbed.
In a post shared Monday on his Truth Social platform, Trump alleged that Reiner’s outspoken opposition to him and his administration played a role in his death. Trump described Reiner as suffering from what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a term he frequently uses to criticize political opponents. The president characterized Reiner as once talented but consumed by anger and obsession with Trump, comments that quickly drew widespread attention online.

Reiner had been a vocal critic of Trump for years and regularly warned about what he described as threats to U.S. democracy. In an October interview with MSNBC, Reiner said the country risked becoming an “autocracy” if Trump were allowed to exert control over the media and electoral process. He also referenced the 2026 elections, suggesting Trump feared losing political power in a free and fair vote.
Meanwhile, LAPD records show that Nick Reiner, the couple’s 32-year-old son, was arrested Sunday night and booked on a felony charge early Monday morning. Police have not confirmed whether the arrest is directly connected to the homicide investigation. Bail has been set at $4 million, and the case remains under active investigation.
