DIJKOT:

The body of a trader who was kidnapped from the People's Colony area four days ago was recovered from the Dijkot Canal on Sunday, police said.

The victim, identified as 65-year-old Muhammad Saeed, a cloth merchant and resident of Shadman Town on Khawaja Islam Road, had left his house for work when unidentified persons allegedly abducted him. A kidnapping case had been registered at People's Colony police station on the complaint of his son, Ahmad Saeed, and police had been searching for him.

On Sunday, residents spotted a body floating in the canal within the jurisdiction of Dijkot police station and informed the police. Teams from People's Colony and Dijkot police reached the spot, took the body into custody and shifted it for post-mortem examination.

After completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the victim's family.

Police said that after the recovery of the body, Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code was added to the kidnapping case, and efforts were underway to trace and arrest the suspects. SHO People's Colony Inspector Junaid Nazir Gujar said that the deceased had been suffering from depression.

CCTV footage obtained from Safe City cameras showed that Muhammad Saeed had gone towards the canal, where he was seen walking and smoking cigarettes before leaving the area in a rickshaw. His body was recovered from the canal later.
