FAISALABAD:

The city is undergoing a major infrastructure transition aimed at modernising it, with projects such as eco-friendly electric buses, road improvements and upgraded civic facilities reshaping the urban landscape.

Speaking to media persons at his office, Commissioner Faisalabad and Administrator Municipal Corporation (MC) Raja Jahangir Anwar said special approval has been granted for the installation of traffic signboards on six major city roads to improve road safety and facilitate commuters.

The signboards will include warnings for speed breakers, no-parking zones and other preventive signs.

Work orders have been issued for the installation of signboards on Canal Road, Jaranwala Road, Satiana Road, Samundri Road, Jhang Road and Sargodha Road at a total cost of Rs6.1 million.

The initiative, he said, will enhance convenience and safety for citizens during travel.

Highlighting other key initiatives, the commissioner said the MC administration has launched several development programmes. Under the Road Restoration Programme, work on U-turns has already been initiated and the tendering process has been completed, with finalisation expected by December 20.

He added that approval has also been granted for patchwork on 30 roads to ensure smoother travel for residents.

Raja Jahangir Anwar further said a major street-light restoration drive is under way. Plans have been finalised for the restoration of lighting on around 10 main roads and routes, while tendering has been completed for the installation of 2,000 new street lights to cover areas currently lacking illumination.

He said approval has also been given to address roadside signage deficiencies, including at speed breakers, school zones and U-turns.

In a joint meeting with the City Traffic Officer and Deputy Commissioner, it was decided that complete road signage would first be installed on six to seven major arteries, including Canal Road and the Expressway, before extending the project to other main roads.

Summing up the recent progress, the commissioner said several positive initiatives have been launched over the past few days and work is progressing at a fast pace.

"God willing, citizens will soon start seeing visible improvements across the city," he said.

Regarding the construction of electric bus shelters, Raja Jahangir Anwar said around 100 shelters are currently under construction.

Of these, 15 to 20 have already been completed, while the remaining are in progress. Initially, 40 shelters were planned, which were later increased to 60 and subsequently expanded to 100.

He said all tendering and approval processes have been completed and the project is moving smoothly as part of the government's electric bus initiative in Faisalabad.
