Pakistan Army clinch women’s softball gold at National Games

The women’s softball event at the 35th National Games 2025 concluded with a gripping final in Karachi, where Pakistan Army defeated WAPDA 9–6 to secure the gold medal after an intense seven-inning contest.

Both sides displayed exceptional skill and competitiveness, but Army’s early dominance and sustained pressure proved decisive.

Pakistan Army began aggressively, keeping WAPDA under constant pressure with consistent scoring in every inning. Their disciplined batting lineup ensured that the lead kept stretching, forcing WAPDA to chase throughout the match.

WAPDA fought back strongly, reducing the margin with six runs of their own and keeping the contest alive till the final stages. However, Army’s superior strategy and execution ultimately sealed the match.

Army Scorers (9 runs): Ayesha – 2, Hina – 2, Fizza – 2, Ramsha – 2

WAPDA Scorers (6 runs): Madiha – 2, Iqra – 1, Noreena – 1

Pakistan Police earned third place after a consistent showing throughout the tournament.

The closing ceremony featured Pakistan’s legendary Olympian Islahuddin as the chief guest. He awarded medals and trophies to the winning teams and lauded the quality of the final.

“Today’s final was of remarkable quality. Both teams displayed discipline, spirit, and outstanding skill. The rise of women’s sports in Pakistan is extremely encouraging, and the growing participation in softball is a sign of a bright future,” Islahuddin said.

Tehmina Asif expressed pride in the talent showcased: “Women’s softball in Pakistan is full of potential. Today’s final proved that our players can compete at international standards and have the capacity to grow even further.”

Secretary General Naseem Khan praised the organisers: “The successful conduct of this event reflects the hard work of the entire administrative team. We will continue to create greater opportunities for women athletes.”

Organising Secretary Zeeshan Merchant added: “Hosting such a major sports event in Karachi is a proud moment. All teams, umpires, and ground staff worked tirelessly to ensure this tournament was a success.”
