Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to install cameras for digital surveillance outside all schools and other educational institutions in the province.

She directed the police to conduct mock exercises in educational institutions in collaboration with the school education department; and made security guards, entry checking and CCTV cameras mandatory for educational institutions.

According to a statement, the chief minister also ordered the registration of drivers and other staff of buses travelling between other provinces and Punjab.

The chief minister directed the Punjab Police and other law enforcement agencies to collaborate with Motorway Police for security, besides improving digital monitoring and security in parks across the province.

She directed The Safe Cities Authority to conduct a functionality review of all surveillance cameras across Punjab, besides ensuring coverage by CCTV cameras of every city, including Lahore and Rawalpindi.

She also ordered linking CCTV cameras installed in homes and markets to the Safe Cities Authority in order to immediately identify anti-social elements, besides continuing combing operations.

She also directed the law enforcement authorities to contact citizens of other provinces residing in Punjab and take effective action against illegal Afghan national residents.

She directed the deputy commissioners (DCs) and district police officers (DPOs) to contact elders in the relevant areas to compile the computerised record of citizens of other provinces residing in Punjab, besides identifying illegal Afghan residents.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant authorities to ensure that no prominent public place is without digital monitoring.
