The National Assembly Secretariat on Monday sought a written clarification regarding any pending or concluded court cases involving former Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub Khan.
According to a spokesperson for the National Assembly, a letter has been sent to MNA and Opposition Chief Whip Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, requesting the required clarification.
The spokesperson said the step is necessary to complete the appointment process for the Leader of the Opposition in line with legal and procedural requirements.
He added that the opposition had earlier informed the Secretariat that no case was pending against Omar Ayub; however, the mandatory written verification has not yet been submitted.
The Secretariat maintains that this verification is essential for completing the nomination process.
The letter asks Aamir Dogar to urgently provide details regarding the current status of any ongoing or past court cases related to Omar Ayub.
The spokesperson said that the Secretariat has been made a party in some cases concerning the former opposition leader, making up-to-date legal information particularly important.
