Dry fruits' demand rises in winter
Almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cashews, peanuts popular choices

With the arrival of winter, demand for dry fruits has surged across the city, bringing renewed activity to local markets.
As temperatures continue to drop, crowds are visible at popular commercial points, including Ghanta Ghar, Gulgasht, Husain Agahi, Doulat Gate and Chungi No. 9, where dry fruit vendors report a sharp rise in customers compared to regular days.
Buyers are actively purchasing almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cashews, pine nuts, peanuts and raisins, while shopkeepers say this year's demand is significantly higher than last season.
A dry fruit seller in Gulgasht, Arshad, said the onset of winter has boosted sales. "Compared to last year, the number of buyers has clearly increased. Almonds, peanuts and raisins are selling the most. Customers do not compromise on quality, which is why premium items sell out quickly," he said.
Another vendor, Asad Raza, said winter evenings in Multan feel incomplete without peanuts. "Prices have increased slightly, but demand has not gone down. People in Multan truly love their dry fruits," he said.
Shoppers at Ghanta Ghar Chowk said dry fruits are considered a winter essential, adding both flavour and nutrition to household consumption.
A female buyer stated that almonds and walnuts are mandatory purchases for her family every winter. "Children love them, and they are very healthy," she noted.
Young customers were also seen in large numbers, particularly purchasing pine nuts, cashews and pistachios.
Health experts emphasised that dry fruits provide several benefits during cold weather but advise consuming them in moderation. A nutritionist said dry fruits contain healthy fats, protein, fibre and essential vitamins. "Almonds support brain health, walnuts improve heart function, pistachios strengthen immunity, and raisins help in blood formation," he said.
Dry fruits have long been a winter tradition in Multan, offering both taste and nutrition as residents embrace the seasonal change.
