Mia Goth says she is unsure of Marvel’s 'Blade' status as production plans “just unravelled”
Mia Goth says she has no updates on Marvel’s 'Blade', noting early work stopped as the project “unravelled”

Mia Goth says she remains unaware of the current status of Marvel Studios’ long-delayed Blade reboot, explaining that early development work involving her role stalled unexpectedly.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, the Frankenstein actor said she had begun initial preparations for the film before the project “unravelled from there.”
Goth said, “I don’t know what’s going on with that. I think that they want to make it, and it’s such an important film for them that they’re taking their time with it. I really don’t have any information. I don’t know why it’s taken the time that it has, but we will see.”
She described the stage the film reached before momentum was lost. “The furthest that it got with me … they flew [me] to Atlanta, and we did a chemistry test between Mahershala and I, and we did a costume fitting and a wig fitting, and I was very excited in the direction it was going. It was very cool. And Mahershala had such an interesting take on it, and he was great. And then it just unravelled from there, unfortunately.”
Goth joined the project in 2023 and was widely reported to be playing Lilith, a supernatural villain from the comics. Early reports also suggested the film might adopt a period setting, with costume pieces later reused for Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s 1930s-set vampire feature.
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has previously confirmed that Blade remains in development with Mahershala Ali still attached. Feige noted that while several versions were explored, the team ultimately chose a modern-day approach. He also said the studio did not want to proceed without confidence in the script.
Blade, announced in 2019, has faced delays linked to the pandemic, industry strikes and the departure of multiple directors.
Cast members such as Delroy Lindo have said the project “went off the rails,” while Ali has avoided detailed comment.
