Dera Ghazi Khan braces for PP-289 by-polls

Punjab election commissioner has announced the schedule for the by-election in Provincial Assembly constituency PP-289, Dera Ghazi Khan, along with the appointment of returning officers, officials said on Friday.
According to an Election Commission spokesperson, the public notice by the returning officer will be issued on December 8.
Nomination papers from candidates will be accepted from December 10 to 12, with scrutiny scheduled to be completed by December 18.
Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be filed until December 22, with decisions on such appeals expected by December 29, 2025.
The Election Commission will publish the final list of candidates on December 30, and allot election symbols to the confirmed candidates on January 1, 2026.
Polling for the by-election will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
The provincial election commissioner assured that all electoral procedures would be conducted transparently and in accordance with the law.
