MQM-P lawmakers accuse govt of blocking projects

HYDERABAD:

Lawmakers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have accused the provincial government of obstructing development projects funded through allocations earmarked for the party's legislators.

At a press conference at the Press Club on Thursday, MPAs Rashid Khan, Hussain Qaimkhani, and Nasir Qureshi alleged that authorities were deliberately hindering their schemes. The lawmakers claimed that areas of Hyderabad which did not elect PPP candidates were being "specifically punished." Qaimkhani said, "Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro is trying to take over our schemes to achieve his own political objectives."

The projects intended to be executed through the MQM-P legislators are being handed over to the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) by the Sindh Planning and Development Department, which is headed by the mayor's brother, Provincial Minister Jam Khan Shoro. "Our projects are being transferred to the HMC as part of a conspiracy," he alleged.

The MPA emphasised that parts of City and Latifabad talukas urgently require infrastructure development, but transferring the projects to HMC could lead to mismanagement and embezzlement of public funds.
