Aurat March raises concern over 'rising abductions'

KARACHI:

Organisers of the Aurat March have raised serious concerns over the increasing incidents of alleged abductions of minor girls in Karachi.

Speaking at a press conference at the KPC, social activist Sheema Kermani demanded that the govt ensure the safe return of abducted Baloch women and children, including Nasreen Baloch and Mahjabeen Baloch, and immediately release minors and differently-abled individuals in captivity.

A heavy police presence was observed around KPC in anticipation of the press conference. Kermani alleged that the police attempted to block the entrance to the venue, using force against the activists. She also accused the police of detaining Seema Din Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, and imposing traffic restrictions around the area.

Kermani highlighted the alarming rise in alleged enforced disappearances, pointing out that girls as young as 14 or 15 are being abducted - an issue she described as worsening by the day.
