KARACHI:

A 10-year-old girl who went missing from Frontier Colony on Friday evening remains untraced. Meanwhile, the distraught family has alleged abduction, triggering police to launch a formal investigation.

According to the FIR lodged at Peerabad police station, Mariam, daughter of Latif Ullah, disappeared around 6pm while playing outside her home. Her mother told police she searched the neighbourhood but could find no clue to the child's whereabouts.

The complainant accused a neighbour, Haider Shah, claiming he had found the girl on a previous occasion when she briefly went missing, and now suspected his involvement in her disappearance. Acting on the allegation, police detained Haider Shah and handed him over to the Investigation Wing.

PS Peerabad SHO Anis Ahmed Sheikh said the suspect was later released after assuring full cooperation.

Haider Shah denied any involvement, saying he had also joined the search. "I have 12 children. Why would I harm anyone else's?" he said.

He added that CCTV footage showed a man in blue clothing walking behind the girl, and more footage was being examined. The family has appealed for immediate recovery of the child, while police continue to investigate all leads.
