LAHORE:

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has launched a rehabilitation and solarisation programme for the Lahore Metro Bus Green Line, approving a project worth Rs2.44 billion to upgrade stations, mechanical systems and commuter facilities along the 27km corridor between Gajjumatta and Shahdara.

According to tender documents, the scheme has been divided into four packages covering Gajjumatta to Chungi Amar Sidhu, Ghazi Road to Kalma Chowk, Canal Station to MAO College, and from Civil Secretariat to Niazi Chowk. The cost of work on Gajjumatta-Chungi Amar Sidhu section is estimated at Rs611.5 million. Ghazi Road to Kalma Chowk Rs542.7 million, Canal Station to MAO College Rs711.8 million and Civil Secretariat to Niazi Chowk Rs577.3 million.

Officials said the project aims to modernise the decade-old bus system through repairs, architectural upgrades and mechanical replacements. The plan includes refurbishing stations, repairing steel structures, installing new glazing and louvres, replacing worn flooring, updating signage and applying fresh interior and exterior coatings.

A key component is the construction of inverter rooms to support the solarisation of various stations, intended to cut operational costs and reduce dependence on the grid.
