Driver becomes extortionist

KARACHI:

An affluent family living in the metropolitan city's most secure area — Malir Cantt ­ was shocked to find out that the driver they trusted to take them around was the one trying to extort millions of rupees from them.

Malir Cantonment police arrested Dawood Khan for allegedly sending Rs8 million extortion demand and threatening phone calls to his employer.

According to the District Malir spokesperson, the employer filed a case on receiving the extortion demand note. Malir Cantt police traced the suspect who turned out to be a trusted worker of the complainant. Once in the lockup, Dawood was quick to confess to his crimes.

Officials said legal formalities were completed before handing him over to the Special Investigation Unit (CIA) for further inquiry.
